Description
Working with children on a daily basis in the Youth Services Dept. of the Greenville Co. (SC) Library System inspired Bane to develop "Let's Pretend" programs using books, songs, fingerplays, flannel board stories, and props to guide children through play focusing on the imagination and fostering the development of thinking, language, social, and physical skills. In this text, she assembles 50 fun and exciting "Let's Pretend" programs, each consisting of a modified storytime that introduces children to the pretend play that follows the story. The materials are designed for librarians, teachers, caregivers, and daycare personnel to use and adapt to their own storytime programs. Each of the 50 programs is illustrated with full-color photographs and includes an introductory overview of the activity, list of materials, a step-by-step program example, list of additional props, and list of developmental skills children will learn.
